Brush Seals
Since the 1920's UK based Cross Manufacturing Company has specialised in offering a complete package for the design and manufacture of piston rings, sealing rings and large diameter metallic seals for use in hot and challenging environments. Diameters of piston rings in excess of 2000mm are in regular production, operating at temperatures up to 800°C. We have over 25 years' experience in the design, test and manufacture of aerospace brush seals, delivering superior performance under the demanding conditions encountered in gas turbines. Beyond aerospace brush seals, our customers in the power generation industry also benefit from the application of brush seals technology. We are the world's leading supplier of turbocharger sealing rings for internal combustion engines, with annual production running into tens of millions. Similar materials, operating conditions and manufacturing techniques are part of our product portfolio that extends beyond piston rings and brush seals to diecaster rings, circlips, rolled sections, retaining rings, thread lock rings, spring lock washers and pipe joints. Manufacturing techniques for piston rings allow us to manufacture Spiralock wire thread inserts in the UK that feature a unique thread form that maintains bolt tension under severe vibration conditions. Automatic backwashing liquid filter products are available to meet filtration applications of virtually any size and complexity, utilising patented 'zero-gravity' coil technology. Also in the UK we have advanced facilities for hot testing of brush seals, a fretting rig enables piston rings to be abraded and a transverse vibration rig to test resistance to vibration-involved loosening of Spiralock thread inserts.
